Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits does business in 44 states. Job Summary:The position reports directly to the Vice President, Human Resources of New York. The role will serve as strategic partner to our business. This includes implementing and integrating HR initiatives, programs and processes to support business objectives. The role encompasses employee relations, performance management, organizational development, compensation, benefits and project leadership. The Human Resource Director is also responsible for overseeing employee investigations and prompt resolution of employee relations situations combined with a consultative problem-solving approach. Job Requirements:The primary purpose of this position is to act as a member of the HR leadership team for assigned divisions, consult with the leadership group create and execute effective human resource programs strategy. Participate as an active and involved partner in the execution of organizational business plans and strategies. Actively support human resources departmental objectives by collaborating with leadership team, staff and specialists in functional areas. Coach and consult with leaders to achieve operational and strategic initiatives consistent with the culture of Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits while developing internal talent. Essential Functions:
  • Interface with union leadership to provide guidance and direction on grievance resolutions, contract interpretations and implementation, and disciplinary issues.
  • Develops direct reports to ensure HR for HR learning and growth is continuous.
  • Serve as trusted advisor and influencer, providing candid and unbiased counsel by creating an interactive partnership. Through leadership courage and business acumen, build trust and credibility to influence both talent and leadership decisions.
  • Enable Business Results by Influencing business conversations based on ability to provide solutions to organizational and business issues. Connect HR strategies aligned to the needs of the end customer and market demands. Use business knowledge and HR analytics to drive strategic initiatives.
  • Organizational effectiveness and development Anticipate business needs and proactively develop innovative HR solutions to help drive results through organizational design and development. Implement employee engagement and culture strategies.
  • Execute HR plans and strategies to accomplish business objectives that are aligned to the companys mission and vision.
  • Proactively identify staff engagement opportunities to improve and enhance the work environment and take initiative in developing and implementing appropriate action plans.
  • Consult on a wide spectrum of HR issues including guidance on team member engagement, performance management, total compensation, human resources development and talent management. Provide counsel and regulatory compliance on employment laws such as ADA, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, etc.
  • Lead in the design and execution of special projects and human resource initiatives. Projects could involve organizational development strategies e. g. restructures, change management, leadership development, conflict resolution, succession planning, etc. or representing SGWS in 3rd party situations such as unemployment hearings, union grievances, or DOL investigations.
  • Provide necessary consulting support and takes proactive steps to enhance the growth of a performance-based culture. This includes, but is not limited to, providing consultation on performance management issues, fostering a learning environment and influencing leadership on appropriate rewards and recognition to enhance the associate experience.
  • Must have thorough understanding of all facets of labor/ union relations and the ability to partner with union leadership and company leadership alike.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong command of English grammar.
  • Ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner.

At least eight years of progressive and relevant high level HR experience in the areas of employee/labor relations, conflict resolution, talent management and acquisition, for an employee population base of at least 500 employees.

Demonstrated knowledge of employment law and multiple HR functions.

Demonstrated ability to complete investigations, including but not limited to, sexual harassment and discrimination complaints.

Demonstrated ability to successfully influence in a multitude of work environments (warehouse to executive office).

Demonstrated leadership and change management skills that inspire and motivate others to excel, allows acceptance of constructive feedback, and ability to foster change

Demonstrated skills in the area of promoting and fostering diversity and inclusion.

Demonstrated strong oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct reports, as well as requires the ability to coach and mentor leaders across the division.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. This position regularly requires long hours and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.


Travel is primarily within the state of New York, although occasional out-of-state travel will be required.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelors degree Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Management, Human Resources or related field required

Minimum of 8 years' experience resolving complex employee and labor relations issues.

5-7 years experience managing Human Resources professionals in a supervisory capacity

Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational effectiveness and design, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.

Preferred Education and Experience

Masters degree and beverage alcohol industry experience.

Bilingual: English and Spanish

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
